Black Girl Dangerous |
Black Girl Dangerous is a place where queer women and trans* people of color can make our voices heard on the issues that interest us and affect us, where we can showcase our literary and artistic talents, where we can cry it out, and where we can explore and express our “dangerous” sides: our biggest, boldest, craziest, weirdest, wildest selves. Donate to the Black Girl Dangerous Writing Workshop for queer, trans*, and gender-non-conforming writers of color! |

Mia McKenzie is a writer and a smart, scrappy Philadelphian with a deep love of vegan pomegranate ice cream and fake fur collars. She is a black feminist and a freaking queer, facts that are often reflected in her stories, which are literary and lyrical and hella quirky, and which have won her some awards and grants, such as the Astraea Foundation’s Writers Fund Award (‘09) and the Leeway Foundation’s Transformation Award (‘11). Her debut novel is on its way (‘12) and she has a short story forthcoming in The Kenyon Review (‘13), one of the top ten literary journals in the country. Her work has been published at Jezebel.com, and recommended by The Root, Colorlines, Feministing, Angry Asian Man, and Crunk Feminist Collective. She is a nerd, and the creator of Black Girl Dangerous, a revolutionary blog.

Upcoming BGD Workshops:
The best way to make sure our stories get told is to support each other in the telling.
Black Girl Dangerous Writing Workshops are workshops for queer and trans* writers and would-be writers of color. Workshops range from 1-day to 4-week intensives. We workshop stories, novels, memoirs, creative non-fiction, essays—whatever prose you’re working on and need support for. Together, we get our stories ready for the world.
More workshops coming in 2013! To get on the email list for updates, email blackgirldangerous at gmail.
